Dr John Large

Consultant Anaesthetist, Salford Royal NHSFT

John is a specialty spinal and neuro anaesthetist at Salford Royal Hospital. He is the Difficult Airway Society lead for the trust and IT lead for anaesthesia. His interests include anaesthesia for complex spine surgery, TIVA, difficult airways and human factors. He is actively involved in healthcare innovation and has helped develop a bespoke positioning system in collaboration with Dr Glyn Smurthwaite.

Dr Glyn Smurthwaite

Consultant Anaesthetist, Salford Royal NHSFT

Glyn has been a consultant anaesthetist at Salford Royal since 1995 and is the Clinical Director of Anaesthesia and Theatres. He has a particular interest in anaesthesia for complex spinal surgery and difficult airway Management. Glyn edited the handbook ‘A Practical Guide to the Prone Position for Surgery’

Dr Ming Wilson

Consultant Anaesthetist, Salford Royal NHSFT

Ming is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Salford Royal Hospital. She specialises in anaesthesia for complex spine surgery. Her specialist interests are difficult airways, TIVA and prone positioning for major spine surgery.

Mr Ulrich Pohl

Head of Surgery Bedding Care, University of Münster

Ulrich qualified as a nurse in 1975. From 1982 up to 2018 he worked at the University Hospital of Münster as the Head of Positioning Care. Ulrich retired earlier this year, but he still leads workshops and seminars on positioning the patient in theatre, including at the upcoming Congress of Specialist Nursing & German Surgery-Day in Münster. He is co-editor of the book ‘Patientenlagerung im OP’ (Patient Positioning in the Operating Room)
